PayShare integration model — authoritative

PayShare for Stripe: merchants install the PayShare Stripe App, add Split beside Pay now, and start group sessions with a Stripe order proof. Guest shares charge on the merchant’s Stripe; PayShare may collect a Stripe application fee. Merchants do not paste Stripe secret keys into PayShare and do not need a PayShare API key for the normal Stripe path.

PayShare never asks for

  • Stripe secret or restricted API keys pasted into PayShare
  • PayShare pair codes or manual integration IDs for the normal Stripe path

How integration works

  1. Install PayShare on the Stripe account that takes payments (Marketplace or invite).
  2. In Stripe Dashboard → Apps → PayShare, finish setup and confirm Split is live.
  3. Add the official Split control beside Pay now on your checkout.
  4. Your server starts the group session with a Stripe order proof (amount/currency from Stripe).
  5. Guests pay shares via Stripe Checkout on your account; PayShare may take an application fee.
  6. On full refund through PayShare, guest shares and the PayShare application fee reverse.

You choose where split pay appears

PayShare does not have to be a payment option on every checkout. Turn it on only for the products and flows where group split pay makes sense — leave everything else on your existing payment path.

  • Sports & recreation: keep team registration on your normal checkout; offer PayShare on field or court hire where a group splits the hire fee.
  • Accommodation: skip deposit-only rooms or hotels; show PayShare only where full payment upfront is required (or the group must commit the full balance before you confirm).
  • Mixed catalog: hide the split button on low-value or admin-only products; enable it on group bookings, events, or anything guests routinely share.

In your checkout you control whether the PayShare button renders (by product type, rate plan, or booking rules). Pilot rollout and allowlists in Settings → Rollout let you limit split pay to specific properties or booking refs while you test.

Frequently asked questions

Does PayShare require merchants to paste their Stripe secret key into PayShare?
No. Merchants install the PayShare Stripe App on the Stripe account that takes payments. PayShare never asks merchants to paste sk_… / rk_… into payshare.nz for the normal Stripe path.
Who runs the actual card payment?
Charges for guest shares are created on the merchant’s Stripe account through the PayShare Stripe App (hosted Checkout). Funds settle on that merchant Stripe account. PayShare is not merchant of record and does not hold customer balances.
How does a merchant start a Split session without a PayShare API key?
The normal Stripe path uses POST /api/v1/bootstrap/stripe-order-proof with a PaymentIntent order proof on the installing account. PayShare provisions the session from verified Stripe identity — not from an unauthenticated acct_… claim alone.
What about PayShare API keys and the Partner Portal?
API-key session create and the Partner Portal wizard are legacy / advanced paths (for example custom Direct API work). They are not required for normal Stripe App merchants.
Does PayShare process money or act as the merchant of record?
No. Guest cards pay the merchant’s Stripe. PayShare may collect a Stripe application fee on completed Split charges (capped per group session). PayShare does not hold pooled customer balances.
How are refunds handled?
Merchant systems call PayShare’s refund path for that session (for example bootstrap session-refund with the install account and refund token). PayShare refunds guest shares and returns the PayShare application fee.
Does PayShare have to be offered on every product or checkout?
No. Merchants choose where the Split button appears. Pilot rollout and allowlists can further limit Split to specific properties or test bookings while you roll out.
How do partners integrate PayShare for Stripe?
