PayShare Session Terms (Host & Participants)
Last updated: 12 September 2026
1. What PayShare is
PayShare provides multi-party checkout session orchestration (the “Session”). By starting or joining a Session, you agree to these terms.
PayShare is not a payment method. It does not change how people pay — it changes how many people can pay together for the same merchant/platform checkout.
PayShare provides the Session flow, join link/QR, progress tracking, and group completion coordination. PayShare does not sell the underlying goods or services, does not operate a pooled consumer wallet, does not hold customer balances, and is not the merchant of record.
2. Who processes payments
Participant payments run through the merchant or platform’s payment provider (currently Stripe for the live PayShare for Stripe release). PayShare coordinates Session and payment state; it does not replace the merchant/platform as merchant of record.
PayShare does not collect or store full card numbers in the hosted Session flow. Card and payment-method details are entered in the merchant/platform’s payment-provider checkout.
3. Authorisations and charges
Depending on the merchant/platform configuration and your payment method, your bank or card statement may show an authorisation/hold, or a charge, for your share.
If a Session is cancelled or expires before completion, uncaptured authorisations should be released according to the payment provider’s rules and timing. Release timing can vary by provider and bank.
4. Group completion and fulfilment
A Session is intended to complete when the required shares have been successfully paid for that Session. A completed PayShare Session records completion of the group payment process.
PayShare does not supply the accommodation, event, activity, product, or other underlying booking or order. The merchant or platform remains responsible for fulfilment, booking confirmation, cancellation policy, and related customer communications.
The underlying booking, order, reservation, or service remains subject to the merchant/platform’s terms, confirmation process, and applicable law. Completion of a PayShare Session does not by itself guarantee continued availability or fulfilment, and does not override the merchant/platform’s booking or order terms.
The merchant or platform may later cancel or refund in accordance with its own terms and applicable law. You should rely on the merchant/platform’s booking or order confirmation for fulfilment details.
5. Expiry and cancellation
Sessions may expire automatically for security and operational reasons, or be cancelled by the organiser or system where the product allows.
If a Session expires or is cancelled before completion, the merchant/platform and payment provider may void, cancel, or release payments or authorisations in line with their rules. Underlying booking cancellation remains the merchant/platform’s responsibility.
6. Refunds, cancellations, and notices
Refund eligibility is decided by the merchant or platform under its own policy and applicable law. PayShare does not decide refund eligibility and is not a customer support channel for booking or refund policy questions.
Where supported, PayShare may facilitate or coordinate the technical refund or release through the payment provider. Actual refund processing occurs through the payment provider; when refunded money becomes visible on your statement depends on your bank or card issuer.
PayShare may send refund, cancellation, completion, failure, or other Session notices to the email address you supplied for the Session. If that email is incorrect or inaccessible, you may miss those notices.
If you believe you are entitled to a refund, contact the merchant or platform. Chargebacks and payment disputes should usually be raised with the merchant/platform first. PayShare may provide Session records to the merchant/platform to assist with dispute handling.
7. Currency display estimates
Where PayShare displays an estimated amount in another currency, that amount is provided for convenience only. Your payment remains in the Session’s stated transaction currency.
PayShare is not providing a foreign-exchange conversion service. Your payment provider and card issuer determine the final exchange rate and any conversion or card fees. An estimate may differ from the amount that later appears on your statement.
8. Accuracy of contact information
You are responsible for ensuring that the information you provide to PayShare, including your email address, is accurate and that you have access to it.
PayShare and/or the merchant or platform may use the contact information you provide to send important information about your payment or Session, including receipts, completion notices, cancellation notices, refund information, payment failures, and other Session updates.
If you provide incorrect, incomplete, false, or inaccessible contact information, you may not receive those communications.
To the extent permitted by law, PayShare is not responsible for loss resulting from your failure to provide accurate or accessible contact information.
Nothing in these terms limits any rights or remedies that cannot legally be excluded.
9. Privacy
PayShare processes limited personal data to run the Session. In the standard hosted pay flow this commonly includes your email address (required for receipts and important Session communications), any display name you provide, Session and participant identifiers, join and payment progress, share amounts and currency, and technical or security logs used for troubleshooting and abuse prevention.
Other members of the Session may see the display name or email address you provide (whichever is shown as your group-status label) and limited Session status information, such as whether your share has joined, is in checkout, or has been paid. They do not receive your full card or bank details through PayShare.
The merchant or platform receives payment through its own checkout and may receive payer details that its provider and booking flow require. PayShare may also receive payment and order references, payment status, and related Session metadata from the merchant/platform or payment provider so it can operate and reconcile the Session.
We use service providers to operate the service, including hosting and infrastructure, databases, transactional email, and bot protection where configured. Payment card data is handled by the merchant/platform’s payment provider (for example Stripe) — PayShare does not collect or store full card numbers in the hosted Session flow.
PayShare does not sell your personal data. We retain Session and related records as needed to operate the service, support the merchant/platform, meet billing/audit needs, and comply with legal obligations. There is no automatic historic-Session purge in the current product; retention is managed operationally.
For a fuller privacy notice, see the PayShare Privacy Statement at https://www.payshare.nz/privacy. To request access or correction of personal data we hold, contact [email protected] (or the merchant/platform for booking and payment data they hold after checkout).
10. Your responsibilities
Do not share Session links publicly. Only commit to a share you intend to pay.
You are responsible for checking the merchant/platform’s order details before paying.
You must be authorised to use any payment method you submit.
11. Rights that cannot be excluded
Nothing in these terms excludes, restricts, or modifies any right or remedy that cannot lawfully be excluded, including any rights you may have under applicable consumer law.
